Human Rights Day

December 10 is Human Rights Day, as designated by The United Nations. To celebrate this special day, the United Nations Association of Canada– Hamilton Branch is sponsoring a forum on the topic of "Mixed Migration and Redefining the Meaning of Refugee”.

Dr. Stacey Wilson-Forsberg, Associate Professor Human Rights Human Diversity at Wilfrid Laurier University will be the Keynote speaker. She will speak about the role of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in these times when the international asylum system is under attack from those who see

security threats at every turn. The presentation will demonstrate what the UNHCR and its network of NGOs are accomplishing on the ground. Dr. Wilson-Forsberg’s presentation will be followed by a panel discussion, led by a group of World University Service of Canada university students from Sudan and Somalia who will share their real-life experiences.
